Grounds
Penn House sits comfortably in five acres of gardens and pasture with uninterrupted views across a valley of woods and river towards distant Dartmoor. Immediately around the house are formal gardens laid out in Victorian times, with charming enclosed garden areas. To the west is a private sunken salt water swimming pool heated with solar panels, with a sauna.
History
Penn House was built around 1800 and unfortunately was burnt down after 50 years. It was rebuilt around 1850. Some later additions were added around 1900 and the courtyard constructed over the last ten years. The whole house has also been renovated internally over the last ten years. The art work and sculpture have been installed by the owners. The Studio house has just been completed very recently. Original surviving parts of the property include a Grade listed grotto and entrance gates. The beautiful furniture, antiques, Persian carpets and rugs have all been collected by the owners.
The gardens have been restored over the last ten years with ballustrading and steps to lower lawns rebuilt from imported Maltese fossilized limestone. A champion-sized artificial grass covered tennis court and a large salt water swimming pool are later additions.
